Rare 1822 pattern Officer's Sword attributed to Henry King Burgwyn, the "Boy Colonel". Purchased from the estate sale of Judge Nicholas Long. He was the son of Thomas Mason Long, who married Maria Greenough Burgwyn in 1910. Maria's middle name was Colonel Henry King, Jr.'s mother's maiden name. The three bar steel hilt has a shark skin covered handle  wound with twisted wire.  The blade is etched with a floral design and includes a palmetto tree device. The scabbard is steel.  Overall length is 39", blade is 33.25" long.  There are no maker's markings, but research suggests that it may have been among the many English made and imported swords purchased by the Confederate central government and Southern state agents. $6000.00
